“I’ve climbed the MOUNTAIN, I’ve crossed the RIVER, and I’m ALMOST there!” – Tiana
The rumors are true, Disney will be reimagining Splash Mountain from Song of the South theming to Princess and the Frog theming and honestly, I’ve never been so excited!! This project seems to have endless opportunities to be visually stunning on so many levels, can you say colors, textures, and lighting?!
The change seems to come after many petitions seemed to be passed around stating that if the Song of the South film was pulled for racial reasons, the ride should also get an update. According to DisneyParksBlog this has been in the works since last year and they stated that “The new concept is inclusive – one that all of our guests can connect with and be inspired by, and it speaks to the diversity of the millions of people who visit our parks each year.” I’m so happy to see Disney is listening to what the world has been saying for a long time, as I always say, the magic is for everybody! This updated version will be coming to not only Disneyland but also Disney World, while we don’t know when construction will start, I’m sure we will be seeing some more concept art soon.
Charita Carter is the woman leading this project creatively and I can’t wait to see what she does with it. The ride is set to show what happens after the “final kiss” as Tiana and Louis plan for their first Mardi Gras performance, so we can at least assume the music on this ride is going to be out of this world!!
Remember change, growth, and imagination is what Walt was all about for his parks and I’m happy to see Disney continuing to evolve so everyone can enjoy the magic and see themselves in the fantasy that is Disney!
